Jaipur — The Pink City

Laid out in 1727 by the astronomer-king Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur was one of India's first planned cities and is today a UNESCO World Heritage site. Painted in its trademark rose-pink, the walled old city is a grid of palaces, bazaars and temples beneath the Aravalli hills.

Jaipur is known for its hilltop forts, its royal City Palace still home to the erstwhile royal family, and bazaars glittering with gemstones, enamelled jewellery and block-printed textiles.
