Udaipur — The City of Lakes

Founded by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1559, Udaipur is the most romantic of Rajasthan's cities — a shimmer of lakes, marble palaces and gardens cradled by the Aravalli hills. It is often called the 'Venice of the East'.

Udaipur is known for its lakeside palaces, its boat rides past island pleasure-gardens, and a living royal heritage of miniature painting, music and craft.
